Course Information
This programme is based on the communicative approach to language learning. Through the use of various task, it provides the learner with practice in various interesting, meaningful and authentic situations, which are related to their workplace. The activities planned would facilitate the learner to become rather conversant and familiar with the array of vocabulary related to their jobs. The learner is also guided in various writing practices involving emails and letter writing.
This 25-hour course promotes the integration of speaking, listening, reading and writing in ways that reflect natural language used at the workplace.
Course Objectives
This course aims to:
- create opportunities for speaking and listening which will support language development that is needed to function at the workplace.
- provide various kinds of reading materials to develop participants’ ability to read, understand and discuss issues.
- provide practice in writing error free sentences on various topics related to their job.
- allow participants to practise the language in a fun and meaningful context
This course takes into consideration that speaking and writing are important processes to convey meaning. This involves producing and receiving and processing information, its form and meaning which are dependent on
- the context it occurs
- the participants and their experiences
- their physical environment
- and the purpose
The primary emphasis is on successful communication, either through speech or in written work. There is a secondary emphasis on specific sound features of the language, such as accuracy in pronunciation and being able to write intelligibly.
Who Should Attend?
This programme caters for employees of all levels (Clerical, Technical Staff, Marketing Staff and Reporters) who have difficulty in expressing themselves and communicating effectively in English.
Course Trainer: Ms Leela Menon
Ms Leela Menon is an English Language expert with several years of training experience in this field. She has been in education for more than 35 years. She possesses a Masters in English as a Second Language (MESL). She was awarded the Excellent Service Award (2006) during her service as an educationist.
Leela has an in-depth knowledge necessary to respond to participants’ needs and wants. Her speciality is in Communication, soft skills, team building, identifying training needs, and Time Management. She has conducted various English courses and soft skills training in various organisations such as New Straits Times Press, Sunway College, Bernama, Texcam-Pack, Palm Oleo Sdn Bhd, Finesse Moulding Sdn Bhd, etc. She has conducted training programs for several companies in Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Kuantan, Seremban and Melaka.
Having worked with working adults of varying levels of English proficiency, she is a specialist in helping people grow and develop their potential, as well as getting them to put across their messages with impact. Leela is approachable in her ways and believes in the personal touch when delivering any training programme. She strives to conduct innovative and results-driven workshops to bring positive changes to individuals and their performance.
